Edward Thomasson (1985) makes performances, plays, videos and paintings about the complexity of social and sexual interactions. His performance work uses song, dance and enactment to describe the ways people come into relation with each other. He writes text and lyrics which are brought to life through collaborations with composers, performers, musicians and friends. His work has been presented internationally in museums, galleries and community spaces. He also uses watercolour to make works on paper that explore longing, openness, support and burden. He lives and works in London. Thomasson has presented plays and performances at KW Institute of Contemporary Art, and Bonner Kunstverein, Germany (2024), Migros Museum of Contemporary Art, Zurich (2019), Studio Voltaire, London, UK (2019), West Space Melbourne, Australia (2018), DRAF Studio, London, UK (2016), amongst others. Solo exhibitions include Endless Love, Shahin Zarinbal, Berlin (2023), Burning Desires, Phillida Reid, London (2023); The Present Tense, Chisenhale Gallery, London (2014), and Inside, South London Gallery, London (2011). Selected group exhibitions include It’s Human Nature, Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof, Hamburg (2023), Testament, Goldsmiths CCA, London (2022), United by AIDS - An Exhibition about Loss, Remembrance, Activism and Art in Response to HIV/AIDS, Migros Museum of Contemporary Art, Zurich, Switzerland (2019). Thomasson has collaborated with Lucy Beech on performance projects since 2007. Together they have exhibited in theatre and exhibition spaces including Tate Britain (2017), Maureen Paley, London (2016), Barbican Theatre (2011). His practice is represented by Phillida Reid, London.
